Computer Science and Capoeira: Two Sides of the Same Coin?
Speaker: Damiano Spina – Melbourne, VIC, AustraliaTopic(s): Information Systems, Search, Information Retrieval, Database Systems, Data Mining, Data Science
Abstract
Computer Science seeks to study and advance the principles and applications of computing. Capoeira, on the other hand, is an Afro-Brazilian cultural practice that blends sport, body movement, music, and tradition, preserving a rich heritage. At first glance, they may seem worlds apart Ñ yet both center on the exchange of knowledge between individuals with diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives. In this lecture, I explore the interplay between my Capoeira practice and my academic work in Computer Science, reflecting on how each informs and enriches the other Ñ in teaching, research, and beyond.
